        ABOUT

          Biography

Louis Myrie is a distinguished American photojournalist, cultural historian, and visual archivist whose career spans more than four decades. His work documents landmark moments at the intersection of politics, music, culture, and social change. Beginning his career as a teenager photographing emerging pop icons, Myrie quickly developed a reputation for capturing rare, intimate moments that reflect both emotional truth and historical significance.

A graduate of Howard University with a degree in Radio, Television and Film, Myrie expanded his practice into political, civic, and international documentary work, photographing global leaders, civic institutions, social‑impact movements, and high‑profile cultural events. His work has appeared in major publications including The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Essence, People Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Billboard, and numerous books published by St. Martin’s Press and The New York Times Books.

Through partnerships with global licensing agencies such as Getty and Contour Images, Myrie’s images have reached millions, forming a rich visual archive of late‑20th and early‑21st century cultural history. His work is frequently cited as a ‘gold mine’ of rare and historically valuable photography.

Myrie was closely mentored over the decades by Dorothy Irene Height, Congressman John L. Lewis, Congressman Donald Payne, Imhotep Gary Byrd, Donnie Simpson and Carol Jenkins.
